Plants Unit

The best way to study plants is to grow some plants in the classroom. This unit is suitable for an elementary class of any grade. In order to do this activity, you will need to have a window in the classroom or have access to a window where students can place pots/cups and be able to water them daily. Giving students the opportunity and responsibility of planting and caring for their own plants will make the learning more fun and more memorable.

Ideally, each student will grow his/her own plant. Some teachers time this unit to end near Mother’s Day so that students can give the flowers that they have grown to their moms. If you are growing flowers for Mother’s Day, it is fun to use small ceramic pots which the students decorate with paint before they plant their seeds. Tempera paint can be used, but be aware (more…)

Solid Materials Unit

A unit on materials should be taught through allowing students to see and handle objects of different materials. The materials most often studied are: metal, glass, plastic, cloth, paper and wood. Science Dioramas and Research Project

Allowing students to create dioramas is an excellent way to conclude a unit in Science for any elementary school level students. This can be used with units on Ecosystems, Animals (of any type), or even other planets!
